Green Spring Plowing: Boosting Stable and High-Quality Grain Production

The latest agricultural situation report shows that winter wheat growth is generally better than usual. In the southwest region, grain filling has already begun; in the Jianghuai production area, wheat is currently heading and flowering; and in the Huanghuai-Hai region, wheat is in the booting and heading stages.
To improve wheat quality, Henan Province has invested 100 million yuan to provide free, integrated green pest control services for wheat in 45 counties that have experienced severe outbreaks of stripe rust and scab. The government is procuring these services directly.
Spring irrigation for wheat in Hebei Province is nearing completion. Under the guidance of agricultural technicians, Gao Zhiqing, a large-scale grain farmer in Hengshui, reduced the amount of water he used—and surprisingly, the wheat seedlings are thriving just fine.
In response to the favorable soil moisture and seedling conditions in the North China wheat-growing region, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is promoting scientific irrigation techniques, advising farmers to combine two irrigation applications into one and delaying irrigation until just before or after the tillering stage, thereby saving approximately 50 cubic meters of water per mu.
In Lishu, Jilin, this year, instead of the traditional practice of plowing and then sowing seeds, everyone is directly planting corn on fields covered with straw. This approach not only helps protect the black soil layer but also reduces the use of chemical fertilizers.
To accelerate the promotion of green production, this year the central government has allocated 1.4 billion yuan for the prevention and control of grain pests and diseases. It has also selected 300 major counties producing grains, cotton, and oilseeds to carry out pilot programs aimed at reducing fertilizer use. Additionally, 220 high-standard dryland water-saving agriculture demonstration zones have been established in the North China and Northwest regions, while protective tillage practices for black soil are being piloted in Northeast China, covering an area of 40 million mu.
