The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held an executive meeting to study and deploy measures for significantly boosting the per-unit yield of grain and oil crops.
On January 8, Han Jun, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, chaired the ministry’s regular executive meeting, during which the “Implementation Plan for Large-Scale Yield Enhancement of Grain and Oil Crops Nationwide in 2025” was reviewed and approved in principle, and related work was studied and deployed.
The meeting emphasized the need to focus on five key crops—corn, rice, wheat, soybeans, and rapeseed—and to clearly define technical pathways for each crop individually. It stressed the integration of superior farmland, superior seeds, favorable growing conditions, and advanced farming practices, with a view to high-quality construction of high-standard farmland. The meeting also called for strengthening the restoration and improvement of farm ditches and channels, accelerating the breeding of breakthrough new varieties such as high-oil, high-yield soybeans and corn varieties that are densely planted and suitable for mechanized harvesting, and stepping up efforts to promote and apply superior varieties. Furthermore, it urged the upgrading and supporting of high-performance agricultural machinery, including precision seeders, and the intensified demonstration and promotion of critical technologies such as integrated water and fertilizer management, ensuring that large-scale yield-enhancing technologies are truly implemented in fields and farms. We must fully leverage the leading role of new types of agricultural business entities, actively carry out demonstrations of yield-increasing technologies, and guide and serve smallholder farmers in improving their grain yields. Above all, we should highlight green and efficient practices, adhere to both quantity and quality, reduce the use of inputs, and promote sustainable development.
The meeting called for the coordinated integration of relevant project funds, with a focus on providing enhanced support for large-scale increases in per-unit yields. It emphasized the need to firmly assign and implement responsibilities at all levels, urging and guiding localities to effectively summarize their best practices and successful approaches, accelerate their dissemination through on-site observation and other means, and systematically adopt mature technological models to address existing shortcomings and weaknesses. Furthermore, it stressed the importance of rigorously implementing key measures such as disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as pest and disease control, to genuinely boost per-unit yields across large areas and provide strong support for achieving the grain production targets set for the coming year.
The meeting also discussed other matters.
