The “2025 National Economic Performance Analysis and Production Statistics Conference for the Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Industries” was successfully held in Yinchuan.

To conduct an in-depth analysis of the operational performance of the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries in the first half of 2025, explore industry development trends, exchange insights on benchmarking consumption and enterprise development experiences, strengthen industry production statistics, and enhance the professional competence of statistical personnel, the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association organized the “2025 National Economic Operation Analysis and Production Statistics Conference for the Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Industries” from August 13 to 15 in Yinchuan City, Ningxia. Nearly 140 representatives from nitrogen fertilizer enterprises and related industry associations attended the conference. Liao Tingjun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Luzhou Tianhua (Group) Co., Ltd., delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Gu Zongqin, Chairman of the Board of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, delivered a keynote address titled “Strengthen Data Support, Serve Scientific Decision-Making, and Strive to Write a New Chapter of High-Quality Development for the Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Industries.” The conference was chaired by Wang Liqing, Secretary-General of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association.

Chairman Gu stated: The purpose of holding this meeting is to conduct an in-depth analysis of nitrogen fertilizers and methanol. Discuss the economic performance of the industry, explore development trends for the second half of the year, share benchmarking experiences in consumption and enterprise development practices, strengthen industry-wide production statistics, and promote high-quality development of the industry.

Chairman Gu introduced the market performance of the national nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries since 2024, which has been characterized by: continued growth in production, a significant increase in consumption, mixed trends in exports (with some increases and some decreases), downward fluctuations in market prices, and remarkable progress in the green ammonia and green methanol industries. He analyzed the key factors influencing the nitrogen fertilizer market in the second half of the year, including: gradually intensifying pressure from overcapacity domestically, widening cost gaps between coal-based and gas-based enterprises, a gradual weakening of domestic agricultural demand and sluggish industrial demand in the second half of the year, and increasing uncertainties in the international market.

He emphasized that in the second half of the year, we should focus on the following key tasks: First, strictly control production capacity and rationally manage output levels; second, uphold the self-regulatory export mechanism and strike a balance between the international and domestic markets; third, strengthen our efforts to develop international markets and actively embrace overseas opportunities; fourth, enhance technological innovation and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of our industries; fifth, promote digital transformation within the industry and elevate its level of intelligence; sixth, deepen supply-side reform and foster the upgrading of industrial structures.

He believes that statistical work serves as the “data cornerstone” for policymaking in the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries—and even more importantly, as the “navigation system” guiding corporate decision-making. At present, the industry is at a critical juncture marked by capacity optimization and green transformation. The accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of statistical data are directly linked to the successful implementation of the “dual-carbon” goals, the effectiveness of capacity regulation, and the enhancement of enterprise competitiveness.

He proposed that strengthening statistical work should focus on three key areas: first, rigorously ensuring data quality; second, upgrading statistical technology and methods; and third, building a robust team of statistical professionals.

The meeting also featured exchanges on topics including the economic performance of the nitrogen fertilizer and methanol industries, benchmarking energy consumption, standard-setting, raw material supply, adjustments to raw material structures, and advanced practices adopted by enterprises. In addition, participants received training on production statistics and monthly report preparation, and existing issues were analyzed and addressed.

8 On the 15th, the delegates attending the meeting visited Ningxia Hening Chemical Co., Ltd. to gain firsthand insights into the company’s production and operations.

The meeting concluded successfully.
